Same-sex intimacies and marriages are a big no-no to God. Scripture refers to them as “shameful lusts.”
22 No man is to have sexual relations with another man. God hates that. LEVITICUS 18 tev
26 God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations with unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men. ROMANS 1
The Marriage Vow
The marriage prerequisites are given to ensure that we can live up to our marriage vows.
This is the traditional vow: “To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness or in health, to love and to cherish 'till death do us part."
In addition, the minister asks, “Do you (name) take (name of spouse-to-be) to be your lawful wedded wife (husband)? Will you love, respect and honor her (him) throughout your years together?”
As we respond “I do” and “I will” to the questions, we make a declaration of commitment to our spouses, society and God. We must not break our word, to God most especially, but must do everything we said (Numbers 30:2).
The Ideal Marriage Partner
If you cannot wait for the perfect partner God created for you, do not choose haphazardly.
Ladies, why not choose a man of God or semblance thereof? For who else can be a better spouse? A man of God has humility and gentleness. He is free of vice and addiction, clean in body and soul. He is responsible, industrious and trained in long-suffering. He is honest, disciplined and fair. He does not live the rest of his earthly life to satisfy wicked desires, but rather to satisfy the will of God (1 Peter 4:2). Most important of all, the Spirit is in him and God’s favor rests with him.
Gentlemen, why not go and find a virtuous woman or semblance thereof? If you see one that stirs your heart, she probably came from your rib, so ask God for confirmation if she is it.
19 Don’t miss your chance to marry a wise and good woman. A gracious wife is worth more than gold. SIRACH 7
21 A man must choose his wife carefully. 24 [So] when a man marries, he gets the finest thing he will ever have—a wife to help and encourage him. SIRACH 36
1 There are three things my souls delights in and which are delightful to God and to men: 2 concord between brothers, friendship between neighbours, and a wife and husband who live happily together. ECCLESIASTICUS 25
