Give to the widow, the orphan and the foreigner

¹⁹ When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the alien, the fatherless and the widow, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. ²⁰ When you beat the olives from your trees, do not go over the branches a second time. Leave what remains for the alien, the fatherless and the widow. ²¹ When you harvest the grapes in your vineyard, do not go over the vines again. ⁹ When you reap the harvest of your land, don’t reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. ¹⁰ Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the Lord your God. LEVITICUS 19

¹² When you have finished setting aside a tenth of all your produce in the third year, the year of the tithe, you shall give it to the Levite, the alien, the fatherless and the widow, so that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied. DEUTERONOMY 26

²⁸ At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, ²⁹ so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the aliens, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God will bless you in all the works of your hands. ¹⁰ Be like a father to orphans, and provide widows with the help their husbands can no longer give them. Then you will be a son of the Most High, and He will love you more than your own mother does. SIRACH 4

²⁷ Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. JAMES 1

⁹ No widow may be put on the list of widows [to be helped] unless she is over sixty, has been faithful to her husband, ¹⁰ and is well known for her good deeds, such as bringing up children, showing hospitality, washing the feet of the saints, helping those in trouble, and devoting herself to all kinds of good deeds. ¹¹ As for younger widows, do not put them on such a list… ¹⁶ If any woman who is a believer has widows in her family, she should help them and not let the Church be burdened with them, so that the Church can help those widows who are really in need. 1 TIMOTHY 5

Give to everyone else in need, except to the lazy. God does not tolerate parasitism or beggar mentality (2 Thessalonians 3:10). 

³⁵ If one of your countrymen becomes poor and is unable to support himself among you, help him as you would an alien or a temporary resident, so he can continue to live among you. ³⁶ Do not charge him interest of any kind… ³⁷ You must not lend him money at interest or sell him food at a profit. LEVITICUS 25
